Because this therapy focuses on the solution rather than the problem, sessions will largely take the same format regardless of the issue we are addressing.
Firstly, there will be a free initial consultation which will last about an hour. This will involve going through a general intake form, discussing what your goals are and what you are hoping to achieve through hypnotherapy.
I will then explain the workings of the brain and why you might be experiencing the problems that you are, and what you can do to improve the way you feel and lessen the symptoms that you are experiencing. You will be given an idea of how many sessions will be needed, which in most cases will be around 8 sessions.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is an enjoyable and relaxing process. There will not be any raking over painful or traumatic memories, or having to talk about the problem, as this can sometimes build on the stored trauma in your brain. Instead, we focus on talking about what has been good for you in your week, and what life would be like if you weren’t experiencing the particular problem you are dealing with. What would you be doing? How would you be feeling? What would be different?
This is the ‘psychotherapy’ part of the session, which sounds very grand but simply means ‘talking therapy’. This is then followed by about 20 minutes of ‘trance’. Don’t be fooled by what you might have seen on the TV – trance is merely a relaxed state, similar to when you relax watching TV, or playing a sport, or driving a familiar route. This ‘guided relaxation’ just gives a focus so that your conscious and sub-conscious minds can communicate without all the background noise of the more negative parts of the brain. This gives your brain an opportunity to fully process all that has been discussed previously, and discover the solutions and find ways out of the problem.
Sessions last approximately 60 minutes, and Clients leave the session relaxed, empowered and motivated.
A free audio recording will be supplied at the initial consultation regardless of which package you choose. It is advised that you listen to this every night at bedtime, to support the work you will be doing together. The audio will also work to improve the quality of your sleep which is vital to good mental health. I will provide full and clear advice on which package would be most appropriate to you at the initial consultation.
As with all therapies, the level of success varies, and no guarantees are made. It is essential that you want to make a change and are willing to participate fully within sessions and between sessions in order to maximise the effectiveness of the therapy.
